What is this all about?

I write what I’m calling queer noir, stories where intimacy is earned, messy, and complicated; where power is never simple, and the truth is always more dangerous than the lie. To me, queer noir is about tension, desire, moral ambiguity, and the way people find each other in the dark. It’s not cynicism. It’s survival. It’s connection forged under pressure. It’s the kind of storytelling that lingers.

This publication is where I release that work and try to find others who are drawn to this kind of storytelling, and find some fellow travelers along the way.

Slow burn. Sharp edges. Emotional honesty. A world built in shadow and carried by character.

Why I Write This Way

I write noir because I’m drawn to stories where the emotional stakes are as high as the plot. I write queer noir because I want complexity, vulnerability, danger, longing, and survival, told through characters who don’t always get that space anywhere else.

And I write this way because as a queer woman of color, I’ve learned that everything is a little gray. I wanted to create characters I’d actually want to read about. Complex people with pain, joy, contradictions, and the struggles sometimes just being their most authentic selves. That’s the center of all my work.

Who I Am

I’m Rowan Beck Anderson. I live in California and work at the intersection of tech and storytelling. I believe in sharp dialogue, slow-burn tension, and getting the music right. My writing is shaped by the spaces I move through every day …creative, technical, queer, and deeply human.

This is the name I use for my writing life.
